Inaugural I Run & Rock Event Huge Success!

On June 1st PACE sponsored the i Run & Rock 1, 5 and 10km run which took place in Newmarket, Ontario. In addition to the run, there was a concert featuring Canadian artists Glass Tiger.

The event was to recognize first responders in the Police, Fire, EMS and Military services and their struggles with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The idea spawned from local MPP Frank Klees` proposed Bill 123, First Responders Day Act which would see May 1st as a day that first responders would be officially recognized for the vital role they play in our communities.

i Run & Rock was organized by the tireless efforts of Nicole Taylor and Dr. Lisa Hutchison, both of Southlake Regional Heath Centre. PACE Vice President Dan Coldwell said “Our community is very lucky to have people like Frank, Nicole and Lisa. By their actions, they obviously care about people, the community in which we live and most certainly the community of first responders. When we were approached to support this event, it was a very natural fit because PACE has the same values.”

Mike Richards of TSN Radio was the event’s Master of Ceremonies.

The day started with runs of 1, 5 and 10km’s through the neighborhood surrounding Ray Twinney arena in the Yonge and Davis area of Newmarket. Maple Lodge Farms provided lunch for the crowd which was followed by PACE who sponsored the concert that featured 5 bands including top recording artists Glass Tiger.

Dan Coldwell also commented “I was given the opportunity to meet the members of Glass Tiger and I was really impressed with how down to earth they were. They all came from this area and clearly have not forgotten their roots.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event.
